Lauren Denitzio


Biography

Lauren Denitzio (1983) is an interdisciplinary artist and writer whose work encompasses drawing, painting, and mixed media as well as zines, site-specific text works and collaborative projects. Their practice addresses the visual examination of psychological space and lives outside of heteronormative frameworks. Denitzio received their BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2006 and recently completed an MFA in Fine Arts at Parsons the New School for Design. Their work has been exhibited in New York at The Kitchen, Recession Art Culturefix, Storefront, Rush Arts Gallery, and Wayfarers as well as a The University of Maryland Stamp Gallery. Denitzio is a founding member of For The Birds, a New York based feminist collective dedicated to challenging social inequality through DIY feminist cultural activism. Their writing and visual work has appeared in Brass in Pocket, Sick Zine, International Girl Gang Underground, and RE/VISIONIST. Interviews on various aspects of their practice have been featured in Pitchfork, AMP Magazine, Bitch Magazine, MSNBC.com, Alternative Press and FRHC: Creative Fuel. Previously a member of The Measure [sa], they are now the vocalist/guitarist of the band Worriers. Denitzio lives and works in Brooklyn.
