We're excited to announce that we will be making copies of Screaming Females debut album Baby Teeth on colored vinyl for the first time as well as making some shirts with it's iconic artwork.
While we haven't really done too much limited colored vinyl, a lot of people have been asking for it and we also had a lot of covers that were going to be discarded if not used. So after discussing it with our label's fans we figured we would give it a shot. Over the next few months we are going to be doing colored vinyl for all of the Screaming Females records and some of our other releases which people have been asking for us to do colored vinyl for. Well see how it goes. If it seems to make people happy well probably keep doing it, if it doesn't well probably never do it again.
We will also be doing shirts for each of the Screaming Females albums to coincide with these pressings. In an effort not to have too many shirts lying around (since they have a lot of albums) we are going to take pre-orders for the shirts and probably not print too many more past the amount we get orders for. At the request of the band the shirts will be printed on American Apparel t-shirts.

We are beyond excited to announce that we will be releasing Chris Gethard's first stand up comedy album, appropriately titled My Comedy Album, on April 22nd. Chris has been a longtime friend of the label so it was only a matter of time until we started working together on something.
The vinyl version of this record will only be available directly and will be a one time pressing of 500 copies that comes with a download code for a bonus "disc" (as well as for the album itself). Chris will also be signing all pre-orders. It is now up for pre-order in our store.
For the more digitally inclined, you can pre-order the record on iTunes.
Chris Gethard is a comedian, writer, and actor who hails from West Orange, NJ and currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He’s appeared on shows such as Louie and The Office and films like The Heat and The Other Guys. He’s written two books, one being a collection of personal essays entitled A Bad Idea I’m About to Do that had its title story featured on This American Life. Gethard has guest written for Saturday Night Live and was on the original writing staff of The Onion News Network. Perhaps most notably, he’s the creator and host of The Chris Gethard Show, a public access television show that’s been met with cultish devotion and much acclaim. That show was recently optioned by Comedy Central for a potential series. Prior to that, Gethard was the promotional face of IFC television for a year. Gethard has performed at places such as Bonnaroo, South by Southwest, Lollapalooza, the Just for Laughs Comedy festivals in Chicago and Montreal, the San Francisco Sketchfest, and more. He can also be seen performing stand up, improv, and storytelling all over New York City.

We're really excited to share the first episode of a new feature we've been working on lately called "At Home With" where we have our artists give us a tour of their living and/or rehearsal space and then play a few songs. The first episode features Brick Mower, who show us their room and then play two new songs acoustic. Check it out, and please subscribe to us on YouTube for updates on more episodes:

No, its not actually a bootleg, its the debut full length from Brooklyn's Marvin Berry & The New Sound, and were excited to announce that were helping them out with it!
Marvin Berry & the New Sound are an energetic rock and roll band from NYC might best be described as something resembling a late '70s English punk/new wave band playing '60s girl group songs. Emphasis on fun and hooks with a soulful powerhouse lead singer, these guys have a timeless quality that exemplifies the transcendent power of rock and roll music.
Here's what Barker Gee had to say about the new album:
Listen to a track off the record, White Jungle, below:
Finally! The wait is over! The blue sound of the New Sound has crawled it's way out from bar room obscurity, out of the darkest corners of New York City cellars to the hearts and ears of the yearning, burning, table top turning masses who have waited, anything but patiently, to be saved by its sick sounds. Feel free to toss your record collections because BOOTLEG is here and its BIG! This slab o' wax needs the whole shelf.
From the "something" drums (BANG!) to the "something something" bass (BOOM!). The "blah blah" guitars (WAAH!), and don't forget about that front man (YOWZA!). YOWZA! These guys have got IT! What's "IT" you ask? Hell I don't know, ask your girlfriend. All I know is this album smokes! It chain smokes even! So don't wait! Don't be late! Don't procrastinate! BOOTLEG is here!
Marvin Berry & The New Sound - Bootleg is out February 25 digitally and on LP (self-released by the band). They are playing a record release show on February 21 at Union Pool on Brooklyn with Liquor Store and Hector's Pets.

The short story: Screaming Females are finally recording a live album, and they're recording it with Steve Albini at the end of the month. The album will be released April 8th.
The longer story: The first time I saw Screaming Females live it was clear they were going to be one of the best live bands I was ever going to see. Okay, thats not entirely true, the first couple times I saw Screaming Females I couldn't wait for them to stop playing so I could watch The Ergs! But from the first time I really payed attention to the Screaming Females...you get the idea.
Anyway, at a certain point it became really clear to me that like many of my other favorite bands, Screaming Females live shows and Screaming Females albums were wholly different experiences (and sometimes even holy experiences), but most of those other bands had done some kind of definitive live documentation or at least had some kind of definitive bootleg. The first time I proposed the idea of the live album to them they thought it was ridiculous. The second time, they told me to shut up about it already. At some point I finally convinced them to do it, or maybe just guilted them into it, I don't know you'll have to ask them.
Once we decided to do the record we spent a lot of time talking about live albums we loved and hated and how we wanted to make sure this album would be made with care, recorded well, and would come out as a stand-alone work representative of the live show, rather than some kind of companion piece, promotional piece, or contractual obligation throwaway piece.
We were originally supposed to record the record at Maxwells and had two dates scheduled there with Steve Albini coming down from Chicago to engineer it but then Marissa got sick and everything had to be postponed, during which time Maxwells unfortunately closed its doors. Not to be discouraged, and still wanting to work with Steve the band decided to do it in Chicago at The Hideout.
So there you have it. If you read this far, I don't know why. The album is being recorded in about two weeks and tickets are still available. And don't worry, they won't be playing the same set each night if you're thinking of coming to both.
Screaming Females - Live At The Hideout will be out April 8th on Don Giovanni Records

Hey! We are selling a ton of really cool stuff on ebay right now to try to raise money for a really crazy 2014 release schedule.
This includes a lot of original artwork from Marissa Paternoster such as a framed original Screaming Females show fliers, a GIANT piece she made, and a lot of the originals of the artwork in her recently released book. Oh, and she is also getting a cut of the money and could also really use it right now so please bid hard.
In addition, we are selling test pressings of almost all of our releases.
Take a look and see if there is anything you want because we could really use some money right now for all of our upcoming projects and auctioning off some cool stuff seemed a lot less exploitive of everyone's enthusiasm compared to some kind of kickstarter scheme...
DON GIOVANNI RECORDS AUCTIONS

Some big news from our Mergers and Acquisitions department. We are acquiring Hello Records! Hello is a small label from NJ, and sometimes Canada, which released records from Rubber Molding and The Hamiltons. Not much is known about the label other than that.
The good news is that effective immediately you will be able to purchase Hello Records titles digitally through our website and soon via iTunes, Amazon, and all other digital retailers.
Rubber Molding have been a favorite band of ours for a very long time and one of NJ's best kept secrets so we're excited to make their music more easily accessible. The Hamiltons are from Canada and share three members with The Ergs! although their identities remain a mystery to this day. Check out a song from each band below, or purchase the records in our store.
