John Wagner

John Wagner was born in Clovis, New Mexico. In the 1950s he fell in love with guitars and got to see Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Eddy Cochran, Johnny Horton and many others as they toured the Southwest on their beginning days to fame. He was captured by the music and formed bands in Clovis and in High School signed his band the 5 Counts to a production deal with Norman Petty of Buddy Holly fame. He recorded two sessions doing a dozen songs and left Clovis to attend UNM in Albuquerque, N.M. As he produced Wayne Cochran, Linda Ronstadt’s performance group Swampwater, Joe Maphis and Merle Travis he burned every other minute writing, recording and performing his own projects. Moments…New Mexico Style is his life story in songs he wrote or promoted as a music publisher!
